Colorful Wardrobe Pick-Me-Ups

As Houston continues to enjoy the drizzly, cool weather that I thought I escaped from when I left Connecticut back in 2003, I'm starting to rethink my choice of outerwear. After all, wet wool can start to take on a rather unpleasant, notsofresh, smell. A classic alternative would be along the lines of Audrey Hepburn's smartly tailored trench in Breakfast at Tiffany's (wherein that final rainy scene ranks as one of my all-time favorite scenes in cinematic history). But, if you're looking for a more modern, 21st century take on the trench coat, there are plenty of colorful, fashion forward options that are sure to chase away the winter blues.

From top left: 1. King Street Twill Bow Trench Coat by Kate Spade ($645). 2. Michael Michael Kors short trench ($100). 3. J.Crew ruffled gamine trench ($178). 4. Burberry packable trench coat in blush pink ($595). 5. Nick & Mo Topstitched Trench ($78) 6. Scallop Trim Coat from Boden ($198). 7. Indigo Trench from Banana Republic ($175). 8. Into the Wild trench from Marc by Marc Jacobs ($498).

Love the turquoise trench! It would make me so much more willing (and happy) to go out in the rain. :-)

LOVE these choices! I have a super cute one in bright yellow...but it doesn't exactly fit right now. Next spring, perhaps! :-) The top left two are my faves.

Fun jackets! I bought a shorter one in a bright yellow last year and love it.

Thanks for the link to your re-covered wingback. It's gorgeous! I haven't made it that far back in catching up w/ your blog yet or I would've included it :(

Oooh, great options!! I don't have a trench coat but this is making me rethink that situation. :) I particularly love the bright orange and animal print ones.

Oh Lord, it's either the Persimmon Kate Spade, or that scalloped number from Boden for me - well, you know...when I'm NOT sporting a huge belly! :)

I really like the turquoise one; how nice that it happens to be the cheapest!

Nuts for that Boden coat. I've been telling my husband as he complains about our rain, that soon enough we'll be complaining we're too hot again. For me, I'm happy to be able to wear my beloved classic Burberry that's been buried in the back of the closet. Great choices Averill x

Oh, what a great post, Averill!

I just brought out my "old reliable", aka my very fav. black dress-like trench. There's nothing like it, though, I'm really loving that blue and white one you shown here, from Boden. I love the details and colors -- very pretty!

Hope you are having a great week :)

My beige silk trench bought years ago in Paris is still a wardrobe stable - more so since arriving here in Houston!
