On my love of blue.
Atlanta Showhouse
It's no secret that I've been having an ongoing love affair with blue the past year or so -- in fact, my family room is practically a homage to the color. Perhaps it's attributable to living in Houston, where the heat and strong light make cool blues particularly refreshing and attractive: no need to worry about a room feeling too cold, after all! Or perhaps it's that I love the richness that can come with some of the more jewel-tone variations of blue: turquoises, teals and rich cobalts are all very appealing to me (and very of the moment). Or because blue and white is a classic and, like a good navy suit, will really never date. Or maybe, like love more generally, my love of blue is arbitrary and ultimately inexplicable.
Since I'm always on the look out for great and inspiring rooms to share with y'all -- and it's been quite a while since I featured a round-up of my favorite blue rooms -- I thought I'd see us through the weekend with some of my new blue favorites. I'm afraid I'm fresh out of my usual design blather this week, so for once I'll spare you my own opinion on these rooms and allow you to enjoy the eye candy free of distractions.

I'll be back next week with a very exciting progress report on some home design projects. Until then, have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

I especially love the contrast of dark blue with white. Striped rugs are on my wish list.
Enjoy your weekend.

I am also in love with Blue and White! This was a great post. I can't get over Waterleaf Interior's use of the classic toile and geometric prints in one room. I think it works here! Thanks for these fresh images!
This just completely melted my heart! So many beautiful rooms, so much beautiful BLUE!
Love the first image! That one is definitely going into my inspiration files!
Have a great weekend! xo Jade
I love blue and white and it is the base for my Someday Family room. I use blue and white in my backyard for the same reason as you do , to keep it a nice cool look around the pool. Have a wonderful weekend,Kathysue

I love blue so much, too. I am about to paint our laundry room ben moore's electric blue then stencil over it. That one dining room in Lonny is just so amazing....I love that Houston home so much!!
I love the color blue! I'm on a mission to add a shade of blue to every room in my home! Let's see how that goes!
Wonderful blue rooms! Especially the bedrooms, debating on painting the master that now...

I think I've seen that kitchen design photo (or a variation) by Phoebe Howard a time or two in the past year and am magnetically drawn to it every time. Something about the watery tones of that turquoise blue tile. Absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing these lovely photos.
The Tobi Fairley design is my favorite. The House Beautiful Blue issue was amazing!

loving that pheobe howard kitchen!!
what a great round-up of blue & white. thank you the inspiration. i just moved into a new house and left behind my kitchen that looked a lot like the pheobe howard one w/ tile the color of a swimming pool. i miss it!
Love that Kim Coleman Long Island mural.
I'm a big fan of blue too. Doesn't matter what hue. I never seem to tire of blue.
I adore blue, too. Have you seen "The Bounty Hunter"? Jennifer Aniston's character had some great white and blue rooms.
My first home was decorated in all blue and white with accents of other colors and I still love that combination.
Looking forward to what projects you plan to share.
Eye candy indeed! I've loved a few of those rooms for awhile, and of course I now have a few new favorites. :)
It's amazing how I've become such a "blue person" over the last few years. I didn't have one shade of blue in our last house. That first image in your post is one of the most perfect shades I've seen.
You always pick the best inspiration rooms! I share your love of blue! Every room my my house would be painted some shade of it if my husband would allow it, which he doesn't. ;)
I'm always drawn to blues - any shade it doesn't matter - these are some great images!
Design blather my ass! I LOVE your blog commentary, but totally understand not having the energy for it! Lovely photos - some of them took my breathe away! Hope you're feeling well Averill!
The predominant color in my home is blue as well...I am such a fan, its even my daughter's middle name! This a fabulous round up of how gorgeous this color looks in interiors! Those square geometric throw pillows...must find these!
What a great post. Blue is a beautiful color in all of its shades. Oh, and who doesn't love Phoebe Howard?!

I can see why blue is one of your favorites -- there is something so refreshing and elegant about it... and paired with white? I'm in heaven, which is why the gorgeous space by Christina Murphy has to be my favorite. Simple, yet patterned touches, fresh yet very sophisticated. Blue has the power to do that... can't wait to see what you have in store for us, Averill!
Hope you're having a great week,
xo
A few years ago, I searched and searched for the perfect blue for my headboard, and it was very hard finding it. I was told (at the time) that blue wasn't in favor, but that it would probably come back in style in a year or two. And sure enough - blue is back! But, as you say, it is one of those colors that never really goes entirely out of style.
Golly, I love blue and white. Esp the Christina Murphy. For a split second I thought Kendall Wilkinson said "Kendra Wilkinson." As if....
We can understand your love of blue.
