Weekend Update: The Powder Room

Yesterday we managed to complete another major project around the house -- without even being here! In fact, we were in Phoenix, Arizona, this weekend attending the wedding of a dear high school friend of mine. Meanwhile, back in Sugar Land, our trustworthy and fantastic wallpaper lady completed the wallpapering job in our powder room and I'm ga-ga over the finished results -- and completely thrilled at the idea of being able to cross a big project off my interminable "to do" list without having to do it myself. If you're in the Houston area and need a referral, let me know and I'll send you Pam's information.

As I discussed in an earlier post, I decided to go with Osborne & Little's Summer Palace. The scale of the pattern fits the size of the small powder room perfectly: it's neither too small so as to make the room feel smaller, nor too large so as I not be easily read on the narrow walls. The mirror over the sink is the Hampstead Mirror from Williams-Sonoma Home and was my Christmas present from Dave. The sconce is the Asbury Triple Sconce from Restoration Hardware.

I picked up "Chinoiserie Plate" by Anne Harwell specifically for this project and framed it a standard-issue ZGallerie frame. I did have the navy mat cut for the frame though as the print was a bit off size for the white mat the frame came with. I was a bit intimidated at the idea of hammering a nail into my brand-new wallpaper, but I do like how the artwork breaks up the pattern while still coordinating with it. Finishing touches include the ginger jar hand towels from Williams-Sonoma Home and Delirium & Co. candle in Blue Absinthe from Candle Delirium.

Love it! Turned out really well and Anne's artwork is perfect in there! The tray holding the hand tweols and candle is perfect too- not kitschy (sp?) looking at all.

Averill - even better than I thought it would be from your board! This looks terrific. And I totally appreciate the fact that you stepped back from the temptation to hang this paper on your own. I read a quote at Maria's (colour me happy) blog once - if you think it's expensive to hire a professional, wait until you hire an amateur. So true! I think anyone who has tried to wallpaper using a paper with a big repeat can relate to that statement! Beautiful! Marija

I'm in LOVE!!!! It's exciting but calming, somehow, and a great statement in your home.

Question - do you know if your installer had to do anything to deal with the texture of your walls? I've read about liners and skim-coating, and I wonder if that's something that had to happen in your bathroom? I'm thinking that's what we'd have to do in our home, which kind of makes me wuss out.

It looks beautiful! The wallpaper is fantastic and the mirror coordinates so well. We also worked on our powder room this weekend, and it's also blue (but only paint). Everything should be finished next weekend.

Averill, I had to come over and thank you for agreeing with me, I had to buy them right?!! I had to laugh when I read your comment. I am definitely using it as ammunition for why I had to buy them. I have another one in the works that I have to talk to my seamstress about. Oh boy it never ends. While being here I had another look at your amazing powder room. It truly is wonderful, such a jewel box, Have a great week,Kathysue

Averill - I'm GAGA over this reveal! What a gorgeous powder room. I so wish I lived in Houston so I could come visit it in person. That Annechovie print looks perfect in there! And that mirror is to die for. Fabulous job - love it all! And YAHOO for checking one whole room (albeit tiny!) off your list!!!

Holy moly, I am completely gaga over it myself! That mirror and Ann's print are THE perfect compliments to this gorgeous paper! LOVE IT! Feel like it needs more attention...Apartment Therapy maybe? Congrats!

Stunning. This paper will of course be in my series on the top ten Chinoiserie wallpapers. You have done a great job in your powder room. Love it all.

Your wallpaper looks wonderful. The print and the metallic would have scared me away from choosing it, but seeing it and my plain little blue/gray powder room makes me want this paper. The print and towel with the blue motiff are the perfect accents.
