Let It Snow!
While talk of "Climategate" continues, Houstonians are enjoying one of heaviest and earliest snowfalls in recorded memory. Despite the fact that snow is only collecting on rooftops and lawns (just enjoy to be festive, but not enough to be treacherous), the majority of area businesses, including both of Dave and my employers, shutdown midday today due to the "winter storm".
I'll readily admit that we're kind of weenies here on the Gulf Coast when it comes to cold weather. After all, our winters average a mild 65 degrees and I could count the number of times I've seen snow in Houston on one hand. But, given the rarity of this event, I'm happy to have the shortened work day to take it all in. While I don't miss New England winters (living through four was enough for this lifetime thankyouverymuch), I do miss the first snowfall of the season, which is far more magical and idyllic than the tenth. Blanketed in white, everything seems so much cleaner and purer -- even towns like New Haven, CT, feel peaceful and look pretty after a fresh snowfall.
Wherever you are though, and whatever kind of weather you may be enjoying today, I hope you have a lovely and magical weekend!

Wow, snow for Houston before Boston?? Crazy! It's hysterical that your workplaces were closed. My company only closes if the snowstorm is classified as an all-out blizzard. In other words - never! Have a great weekend!
Yay for Texas snow, I'm so glad you guys got some, too!!
It's always funny when it snows where "it shouldn't." I saw some in Houston when I was 8 maybe?? In Atlanta, we've a dusting the past 2 years, which is just crazy. But also fun fun!
How pretty! We live in a foothill community that gets snow up at the top but not down here, just a few blocks away. It's fun to drive up to a friend's house and find the surprise of snow on their rooftops. I've never been even remotely tempted to live in a place where it really snows, but I do like living "snow adjacent".
I can't believe we haven't had snow in the Midwest, but you're having it! I always love the way it looks when the snow is fresh and no one has walked on it or driven over it.
Congrats on the snow! :-) As much as I am not a fan of winter, I have to admit that those first few snows of the season are very pretty. It takes quite a bit more than a coating here to be able to get off work for a "winter storm" though (like at least a foot?) :-) Hope you have a wonderful weekend too!
Do you think it will snow in San Francisco next?
Your house looks beautiful!
Happy weekend,
cristin
i'm in houston too. we got TONS of snow on our side of town. it was amazing. pics on my blog.
It's supposed to snow tomorrow here in DC.
Wow - I had heard about the snow in Houston, and seeing is believing! Spending my college years in Houston (coming from Connecticut, where my family moved when I was 11) made me a believer in mild winters! Atlanta is a happy medium for me - we only get snow once every 2 years or so, but we do have the crisp weather that necessitates the coats and winter clothes that I love so much, but only from late November through late February.
Enjoy your weekend!
Oh, so sweet, that house with the snow, in Houston!!!
You know, I posted similarly today the first snow here too!

Averill: your house looks soooo good! We had about 3 minutes of Indiana sleet last week, but so far so good! xo kitty
How lovely! What a pretty winter wonderland...don't you just love the serenity and quiet that snow brings? There's nothing like it.
Your first snowfall in your new home!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Averill.
Also, I think you would very much suit a key pendant :)
Wow, I had no idea it snowed in Texas. We just got our first snow a couple days ago here in Chicago.
Snow in December is amazing!!!!!
Thank you for coming by when i was away too!! xxx
That is awesome! Hope you enjoy the snow while you can. If you need more - we are expected to get a ton this week. :)
Was this not fun? We got about the same amount as you all, maybe a tad more. My pal in Sugar Land was even able to make a snow man. It seriously was great fun & I felt like I was 6 again. Made me a bit teary for home. Hope the new week is being good to you?
