Happy New Year!

I hope everyone capped off 2009 with a wonderful and festive evening. I'm signing off for the weekend, but I'll be back next week, refreshed and renewed for what I can only hope will be a great 2010. This year, I toyed with the idea of dispensing with New Year's resolutions altogether; after all, why set myself up for failure with a slew of resolutions that I'll just break before January is over? But, ultimately I decided a bit of aspirational thinking never hurt anyone and, to quote C. S. Lewis, "you are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream".

So what are my goals and dreams for 2010? Many of you have encouraged me to pursue a career in design and -- while I'm immensely flattered -- I actually really enjoy my day job. So, above all, I dream of stability at work in 2010. Since February 2008 I have been through two jobs, three employers and five (yes, five) bosses. After some bouncing around and a lot of luck, I've managed to land a job I really enjoy and a boss that I both admire and like. Continued stability at my current job will (finally) give me an opportunity to build a reputation and achieve some career growth. But that's not to say that decorating and blogging don't figure into my goals for the coming year; there are plenty of design projects I have up my sleeve for the new house (more on that to come) and I'd love to continue to build on the successes that I've had blogging over the past 12 months. As corollaries to those hobbies, I'd add pushing the boundaries of, and continuing to develop, my own sense of style as goals for this coming year as well.

And what about you? What are your New Year's resolutions?

Happy New Year! As always, I love looking at the world through the filter of your words. I am not a resolution setter; instead, I like to appreciate the blessings that are in my life, and look on the challenges as learning opportunities.

After reading this post, I realize that something I admire about you is that you do have a strong sense of your own style. Here in Atlanta, not many people I know would dare to decorate their own house, and yet you followed your own style and taste and created a place that wonderfully reflects you (and your husband) and is a place of great beauty and style.

I look forward to many wonderful posts in 2010, and look forward to seeing what new house and design projects you have in store for us!

Averill I love the CS Lewis quote. I had not realized you had so many changes in jobs and bosses. I know for us, job stability in 2010 would be a huge luxury. I've decided that I need that peace in my life and don't care where it takes me as long as we have that stability. Not sure what this New Year will bring but I'm ready. It's been such a pleasure to follow you and I look forward to so much more to come. Your an incredible person and a magnificent design blogger x

I haven't really had time to think about them, but here are a few easy ones...Eat healthy and exercise for sure! Also, really get my real estate biz going this year, and set some goals for my blog! Happy New Year!

I'm a non-resolutioner. Not necessarily because I feel I'll set myself up, I just feel the list would quickly add up to something more than overwhelming. I DO need to be better at goal-setting, though...
Looking forward to another great year reading OetA! Happy New Year!!!

I love your resolutions Averill, and I soooo relate to your stability resolution. I went through jobs and bosses like nobody's business before the foo was born. UGH.

Your blog has the potential to be really big, in my humble opinion. I bet you could grow your audience in a huge way, if that's what you're looking to do. I love it! And I'm so glad we've met online, and look forward to meeting you in person this spring!

Happy New Year!

One of my goals is to make a list of my goals. ;) I've been so crazy with my move I haven't had time for much of anything. It's been great meeting you this year, Averill, and I'm so happy to hear that you have lots of design projects planned because I am looking forward to following them. Happy new year!

I don't really do resolutions, but my three goals for 2010 are a new car (already got it), my laundry room renovation, and taking my design passion in some new direction, but not sure what exactly. Happy New Year to you.
